Excel 2007 throws "this action is valid for the products which are currently installed" while i try to open .txt file format.

Hello,

We have Windows 2008 r2 TS, on which we have MS office 2007 Standard installed. There are almost 50 users on this particular machine.

The problem is we get an error message when we try to open a .txt file in Excel (Right click on .txt file--> Open with --> Excel). Error message is as follows  "this action is valid for the products which are currently installed". Previously this was faced by all users so we completely reinstalled it, which worked, except for 1 user.  Currently i have recreated the profile for that particular user but that also didn't helped.

A drag-drop approach works but user don't want it that way.

Now am clueless in terms of where should i look into. Any help would really be helpful.

Thanks,

Amol S

Hi Amol S

Does it work fine without opening the .txt file?

As your said, you think perhaps any add-ins responsible for this issue. Remove add-ins from excel and try again.

Remove add-ins in excel 2007:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Enable-or-disable-add-ins-in-Office-programs-3e533d0f-a6cf-44b7-b6b4-3d9185b5e025

And finally you can try to perform a clean boot in Windows.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/331796

This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may find what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

Hello,

I disabled all Add-ins but that also didn't worked. Just now i have discovered some difference in .dll files in the affected system, seems these .dll files are not registered, reason is unknown. Can you help me on how can  i register all of these .dll files. May be this might resolve the issue. Any more suggestion are also welcomed. Thanks

Hello,

I tried registering those .dll files,  few got registered but many fired an error message "The module (module-name) was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure (Module name) is  a valid Dll and ocx file and then try again".

Have no clue why is it happening, any more suggestion/help on this plz as this has been quiet frustrating experience for all users?. Thanks again.
